About this calculator
Timber yards price by the lineal metre or the cubic metre. This turns piece counts into both, with cost.
How it’s calculated
Cubic metres = thickness × width × length (all in metres) × pieces.
Worked example
With these inputs:
- Thickness
- 45 mm
- Width
- 140 mm
- Length
- 3.6 m
- Number of pieces
- 20
- Price per m³
- $1200
the result is:
- Timber volume
- 0.4536 m³
- Total linear length
- 72 lin m
- Board feet
- 192.2 BF
- Approx. weight (softwood, dry)
- 249 kg
- Cost
- $544.32
Tips from the trade
- Dressed (DAR) timber is smaller than its sawn size: 100 × 50 sawn dresses to about 90 × 45.
- Add 15–25% for defects when buying rough-sawn hardwood.
Results are estimates for planning and pricing. Check quantities against your drawings, the manufacturer’s data and the NCC and Australian Standards before ordering.
